I felt the gig this Friday was worth one extra email, sorry. This is because, well now that I look at it again, its shaping up to be quite huge: You got the sound systems of King Kapisi, Feelstyle MC set, Olmecha Supreme, Iron Hammers – some great stuff in there… I will give you the inside scoop tho but don’t let this put you off coming: only Dam Native and The Iron Hammers are actually gonna be full bands sets, the rest is MC and DJ sets, just so ya know. I reckon the place to be on Friday. $6 Stella and Redbull vodkas all night too. Boomshankar!

EASY are were playing at Auckland’s largest Christchurch Earthquake benefit concert this Friday, but that got CANCELLED.
Dam Native play Kings arms the next night with John Chongnee’s reggae band Foundation. This will be a good gig to catch. If you do miss it though, I guess you have one more chance to see Dam Native again the next week at another CHCH benefit gig, this time one organised by Iron Will from Riddim Central and Fundamental Events
Don’t miss The Funky Meters and George Clinton and The Parliament Funkadelic later in April too! Mean!

OK it’s on! Dam Native have secured what I reckon is one of the better time slots at the festival, doing a 45 minute set at 2pm. The timings I got for this are taken from the PDF you can download at the Official Website for the event. Check out the island stuff they got Kanak, Tahitian, and Hawaiian groups playing.
The next day EASY play a gig down at the Thirsty Dog. Maybe I just let the table do the talking…
Tomorrow, I’m off to Paeroa (weather permitting) to play a gig at this festival below at the Paeroa Racecourse! That is if cyclone wilma doesn’t deal to it.
EASY are doing a show tonight down at what I’d call a temporary bar – they are calling it an “al fresco arts and music garden”. First set at 5pm, second set at 7:30pm, free entry.
Then I triple booked myself somehow and got 2 gigs in one day, plus I’m gonna try checkout soul legend Sharon Jones in between the two gigs. Lets talk about Sharon for a bit. She is one of the wickest black soul singers of the past 20 years. They rocked it super hard down at WOMAD back in 2009, and its a pity this pic doesn’t quite have a shot of the drummer, but checkout the bassplayer he looks classic. Sharon too is looking mean as. Anyhow, looking forward to seeing that.
I’ve popped some good upcoming shows into the gig list: Mos Def and Aloe Blacc in Jan, Splore City, and then in April: The Funky Meters (yes some of the founding members of The Meters are coming to do a show).
EASY are heading up to Leigh this Friday night to play support for the almighty Olmecha Supreme! These guys are pretty psychedelic and worth checking out. Then the next night, we’re off to Mangawhai tavern to play our own headline show with TDK.
Win tickets: Just write back with the which gig you’d go to (Leigh or Mangawhai) and I’ll give one double pass for each show.
Then on November 13, Dam Native are hitting hard with a headlining show at Juice Bar supported by Hangman, and a one man outfit called Infinite Rensta. Should be cool. After that is the official "Aotearoa… Nobody Does It Better" album release party at Rakinos.
The debut single from Auckland based band EASY is now in hitting you in eye-holes. Shot on an old school double decker bus as it picks up the band around town. So get on over to iTunes and buy the single when it comes out Monday 27 September 2010!
Coming up in November Dam Native will play a gig with Hangman, a progressive hard rock band, down at Juice Bar in Parnell. It should be mean hori! Check the poster below for details, and I’m thinking we’ll probably do a ticket giveaway like the one below for this at some stage. Rumour has it the new native album is getting much closer to being ready to drop, chur…
Also next up in priority would have to be the Easy “Natalie Video & Single Release Party” which should be a banger!
And this just in from my Dubtropic agents in the field: WIN TICKETS: “Name on door +1″ To this weekends Dubtropic gig at Galatos to a random person who replies to this email with the word: “dubclash” in their reply! I’ll update the blog with the winner after. If you checkout the Facebook page they have a good description of whats going on. Congrats to Eruera Davies for winning that one.

Easy Natalie Video/Single Release Party!
EASY bring to you a double whammy with the release of the ‘Natalie’ single and anticipated video clip.
With supports Harvey Knows A Killer, El Gato Negro on the decks, not only that but amongst the goodtimes of this evening, we have been graced with some of Aotearoa’s renowned Artists Pest5, Enuake, T:13 & Anime making art versions of our logo for sale.
Coming in from left of centre is this bunch of gigs, even Dam Native has a bunch coming up later in the year. First of all Easy are trying to raise some money for our upcoming video with a gig at Rakinos, where some artists have donated artworks for sale. Then we are supporting out mates The PHDs as they release a vid, then we copy them a do a video release gig too. Finally my jazz quartet Foghorn is in on the action with some caffeine induced 3 set gig during the coffee festival, looking forward to getting wired on coffee for that. TONIGHT: Checkout Rooftop collective with their gig on tomorrow! They are pretty cool.
Random Tip: Asparagus is good to plant in August.

This long weekend catch Easy both nights as we play the Grey Lynn RSA on Friday and then Khuja on Saturday! OK so what are the relative merits of each gig? Well lets see… the RSA is a place where you can get cheap beer, and I think they have pool tables that are superimo quality. You have to get signed in at the door when you arrive tho but that’s all good, it free entry.
The gig at Khuja has a bit on an advantage: Rooftop Collective are also playing. I saw them recently, and they are wicked, I was greatly impressed I’d definitely check them out.
It contains interesting and funky music events around Auckland area - usually just the gigs of bands I'm in or that I like.
